president commended netanyahu and egypt's president for reaching a deal. the truce ends a week of intense rocket attacks and air strikes that left at least 160 palestinians and 5 israelis dead. just hours before the deal, an explosion ripped through a bus in a busy section of tel aviv injuring more than two dozen. israel responded with attacks from the air and sea pounding gas city. under the cease-fire agreement, hamas will halt rocket fire and israel will end its policy of assassinating top militant leaders. the white house said the president would help israel during this time of peace with its outstanding security issues, including people smuggling weapons into gaza. at the white house, danielle nottingham, cbs 5. one of two suspects accused of going on a deadly crime spree that ended in a gunfight with police faced a judge today. as cbs 5 reporter len ramirez tells us, that suspect appears

to be ashamed of what he did. len. >> reporter: that's right. it was just the briefest of court appearances today for the suspect in this case jonathan wilbanks. in fact, he was in court less than a minute as he begins this process of a potential death penalty case. reporter: wearing the red pullover and shackles of a man accused of murder, jonathan wilbanks walked to his first court appearance with his head down. he is accused of killing a man during an attempted carjacking and wounding a san jose cop after a string of armed robberies but he did not enter a plea. >> no thank you. >> reporter: outside, his court- appointed lawyer spoke to wilbanks' state of mind. >> extremely remorseful. >> reporter: wilbanks and an accomplice allegedly robbed four san jose businesses at gunpoint last friday night then killed 22-year-old rory parkpettiford while attempting to carjack him in the parking lot of a 7-eleven. later when tailed by a police patrol car, the crime partners

allegedly stopped, got out and fired on the officer several times grazing his gun belt and disabling his service weapon. after another brief chase, wilbanks crashed his car and was arrested while his partner escaped on foot. the district attorney says the crime spree could land wilbanks in prison for the rest of his life or worse. >> the murder of rory parkpettiford is potentially a life without the possibility of parole or a death penalty charge. so there's not much you can do to somebody of that. but the attempted murder of a police officer is a life offense. >> reporter: despite a $20,000 reward and manhunt, the second suspect has eluded capture and is a threat to public safety. >> this is somebody who, but for the grace of god, this officer could have been killed. we have no reason not to suspect that he wouldn't try to do the same thing again. we're trying to find him as quickly as we can. >> reporter: jonathan wilbanks will be back in court on

december 5. meantime, san jose police and other allied agencies in this area are working around the clock to try and find the second suspect before anyone else gets hurt. reporting live in san jose, len ramirez, cbs 5. a burglary suspect went on a rampage in pacific heights in an apartment building where he broke windows and terrified the neighbors. [ screaming ] >> it happened about 11:30 this morning. police say this man was moving across the rooftops of several buildings at franklin and sacramento trying it break in. one woman heard the glass break, looked out the window to see a man directly below her trying to smash in the door with a skateboard. she called the police. >> so i was dialing 911, please come, i don't know if he get in the building. i was afraid. i didn't know my neighbors were home. >> it's scary but it doesn't happen around here. this street is quiet. >> the police obviously got there. they say the suspect appeared to be impaired either from

mental illness or drugs. he was arrested and treated for cuts that he suffered apparently from the broken glass. around the bay area, a man was killed early this morning when he was hit by two cars in san jose. it happened around 6:15 this morning at jackson and alum rock. witnesses told police the first car a dark sedan hit the victim and kept going. seconds later a second car hit him. the victim was not walking in the crosswalk and police have not released his identity yet. a session of san francisco's ocean beach blocked off because of a sewage spill. the flow was discovered overnight coming from a manhole cover near the great highway in balboa. it ended up on the sand and the sidewalk. so the section is going to be closed until crews clean up and take water quality tests. traffic is unaffected. black friday shoppers know to expect long lines this weekend but at walmart they may have to deal with picket lines, as well. cbs 5 reporter ann notarangelo on the black friday backlash

and why it's not just workers protesting the big box giant. reporter: these are not walmart workers. they are child care advocates who took the extraordinary step of marching into this oakland walmart to protest the way the company does business. >> they need to be more supportive of the american families and, you know, raise their wages and treat their workers with respect. [ chanting ] >> reporter: this is the ramp- up to a thanksgiving day black friday one-two punch against the retail giant. actions include strikes and protests nationwide. each location will be different and there is a sense of general disorganization. raymond bravo works at the richmond pathmark. his black friday shift starts thanksgiving night. >> i'm going to walk out at 11 p.m. >> reporter: he says he wants better working conditions. he also says managers retaliate against workers who speak up. bravo knows by striking he could lose his job. >> in the end i believe it's worth it because we have to

stand up against walmart' tyranny. >> reporter: this is a showdown between two giants nonunion walmart and the united food and workers union which says it's not organizing a rally but as clearly stated on its website is offering support. walmart has asked the national labor relations board to stop the rallies but a decision is unlikely to come before tomorrow. walmart doesn't seem fazed. in an email a company spokesman wrote, the reality is that there are only a handful of associates at a handful of stores scattered across the country who are participating in these ufcw made-for-tv eventsful but even this small protest turned away at least one customer. >> i decided i would go to target or some other store. >> reporter: other shoppers are sympathetic but highlight the challenge. do you think people would support a strike? >> no. the almighty dollar always wins. >> reporter: walmart calls black friday the super bowl of

retailers and does not expect its customers to be affected by the protests. ann notarangelo, cbs 5. here's what a holiday weekend getaway traffic looks like from chopper 5. this is i- 80 in vallejo, eastbound traffic slow there but things are moving. da lin at san francisco international airport on one of the busiest travel days of the year. da. >> reporter: that's right. busy sfo. in fact, sfo is very much a hotspot here for holiday travel. in fact, airport officials here expect about 120,000 passengers to have come through here when the day is over. reporter: a busy but smooth day at san francisco international airport. we were given special access for an up-close look of the runway. planes packed with passengers taking off and landing in san francisco. >> we had clear skies and no turbulence and we got to sit together. >> reporter: despite how busy

it was, there were no major delays or long lines. passengers coming and going were upbeat. they say security checkpoints moved pretty fast. >> nice. i was expecting it to really be a lot worse and i kind of -- i hate the stress of the airport so i hate flying so it's kind of nice to come into this atmosphere and not worry. >> reporter: airport officials say passenger traffic was up 3% at sfo this thanksgiving eve compared to the same day last year. lines were slightly longer this morning compared to the afternoon hours. aaa estimates close to 44 million people will travel 50 miles or more during the thanksgiving holiday a slight increase from last year. it reports about 90% of those will travel by automobile. we saw packed roads on interstate 80, 580 and 101, a greyhound bus driver telling me

i don't have to look for any other tvs. >> reporter: but then days later, after all the other black friday deals expired -- >> they sent an email saying the item is no longer available. >> they supposedly had some type of technical error which allowed more tvs to be purchased than they had in inventory and they would not be honoring those orders. >> reporter: in 2010, a computer glitch prompted target, buy.com and fry's to oversell limited online door buster deals. that meant many a missing present under the christmas tree but eventually all three stores honored the sales prices and made good on the orders. but when the same thing happened to best buy customers in 2011, they accused the retailer of singlehandedly ruining christmas because best buy refused to honor any oversold deals and cancelled them completely. >> they broke deals with their consumers deals that they are obligated by law to honor. they advertised a deal, they told consumers they could count

matter who you are. you come in off the street and they will take care of you at glide memorial in san francisco's tenderloin. 5 a.m. tomorrow morning, they will be here about 200 people prepping turkeys and happens to get ready to feed the homeless. with me is the guy who makes it happened every year, cecil williams. i have been doing this with you, what, 20 years now at least. >> it's been that long. we have been here about 29 years. >> so you're aheading me. >> we're trying. >> how many turkeys are we cooking. 300 turkeys. we are going to have 200 happens. we are going to have dressing with all the gravy. you have to have gravy with the turkey and dressing. and then we'll also have vegetables and, of course, dessert. and also, we have the opportunity of people sitting there talking with each other, conversing with each other, getting to know each other and feeling out the situation that all of us certainly make thanksgiving one of the most

important days of our lives. >> absolutely. we'll talk about the situation briefly in just a minute. you told me something and i think we're showing pictures right now the kitchen work that they are doing downstairs. you will do 6,000 turkey dinners tomorrow? >> yes, we will. there is no doubt about it. we have a system worked out where we make sure that -- we'll have about 500 volunteers. >> reporter: amazing. the generosity comes from the public. >> we have always been close to the public and we continue to be close to the public because there are many people that will be sleeping overnight on the street tonight. still have no place to stay. the homeless. so we focus very much on those who feel like they don't have anybody to -- >> reporter: don't forget the homeless this thanksgiving. if you feel the need to give, this is a good place to start, glide memorial. drop them an email or bring your donation by. they will be glad to accept t keep up the good work. we'll come back in another 20 years. >> we'll look forward to that.

>> thank you. great generous souls there. just in time for thanksgiving, the country's two luckiest turkeys got their walking papers. >> the american people have spoken. and these birds are moving forward. [ laughter ] >> genevaguess they got enough electoral college votes. president obama gave official pardons to the turkeys. the tradition has been around for decades but this year a first for the presidential poultry. the pair was elected through an online vote from the white house facebook page. >> thank you, thank you. well, thanksgiving is often portrayed as the holiday that wages war against the waistline but tomorrow, peace for that piece of pie. dr. kim on why a lot of the feast is actually good for us. reporter: at whole foods they came in droves. >> i would say that is one of the busiest if not the busiest day that we have in the year.

which was soggy last night. downtown san francisco you got an inch of rain. so did santa rosa, lafayette more than an inch and a quarter. yountville more than 1.5" of rainfall and walnut creek .75" of rain. palo alto and san jose got about one half of one inch. radar is clear now. hi-def doppler showing zero rainfall. that's how it's going to stay for a while as high pressure builds in but clear lights lead to cold nights. watch out for fog in the north bay valleys. the front moved through overnight. we got the good decent soaker out there but as we said the rain will be out of here by lunchtime. it was out earlier by that. watch the next storm where it's heading. not down toward us instead toward western washington and british columbia because high pressure is building in. it's going to create a dome of protection keeping the storm track north not just for tomorrow and friday, saturday and sunday, next monday, next tuesday. this dome of high pressure is going nowhere, which means the sunshine also will be going nowhere. it will be sunny.

francisco. chopper 5 is live over 11th and howard street. first reports indicate a man has been severely injured and has something to do with a manhole cover. there were earlier reports of flames coming from the manhole. the fire is now out. we'll have more on this story tonight at 6:00. a suitcase full of wedding pictures is found in a parking lot. they are trying to find the owners. mike sugerman reports on the mystery of the missing memories. >> reporter: it's a major metropolis our bay area but sometimes someone breaks through the noise to show we may in fact just be mayberry. with opie and andy skipping rocks down near the creek. >> something very sentimental and obviously very precious to them. >> reporter: fremont police opened the case yesterday literally. they opened a briefcase. turned in to them found at a child care center parking lot.
